The longer answer

Young Kingston, an exciting new charitable fund nominated as the Mayor of Kingston's Charity for 2006-7, has been set up by Kingston's Mayor for 2006-7, Cllr Mary Reid.

Young people

Its aim is to help young people living or going to school in the borough, to make the most of life's opportunities and benefit their local community.

Whether it's providing funding for a local environmental clean-up or a performance about an issue that matters to them or providing talented musicians with funds so they can buy a musical instrument or travel to sporting events for promising sportspeople so they can compete, - we aim to help young people do it for themselves.

Who can apply?

Anyone living or going to school in Kingston, between 5 - 19 years (and above for those with disabilities) can apply.

We will make it as simple and easy as possible - so applications can be made on a simple form. Young Kingston Advisers will be on hand to help with applications.

How are grants awarded?

A unique feature of our charitable fund is that our grants will be awarded by a panel of young people (who themselves have gained valuable skills through their training for the task).

How is the fund underwritten?

The charitable fund is being set up and supported through the Thames Community Foundation (TCF), a registered charity (reg. no: 1001994).

TCF will also be helping support and advise the grants panel of young people who will be allocating funds.
